LONGING installation by Dream the Combine (Jennifer Newsom and Tom Carruthers)
Every year, editors from architecture publications and deans of architecture schools nominate 30 young practices for the chance to build a temporary outdoor installation in the courtyard of MoMA PS1. Each firm must submit a portfolio and the 30 firms are whittled down to just five. These five firms then submit initial proposals for the project. The winner will be announced in 2018.
Jennifer Newsom’s & Tom Carruthers’ firm, Dream the Combine, is based in Minneapolis. Each of their projects explores concepts of reality, perception, material, social and cultural constructs, such as race and metaphor. The team has produced numerous site-specific installations in the United States and Canada. Most recently, CLEARING was installed in Franconia Sculpture Park in Shafer, Minnesota.
