Tokyo, Japan

Sixteen students traveled to Tokyo, Japan in May, 2009. They worked with students in the Ito Lab from the Tokyo University of Science to create the project, "Parsing Tokyo." Students were asked to create short videos to convey their impression of Tokyo. In addition to video, students made many photographs.

Tokyo Intensity
A mass of people moving together from one place to another, yet each one of them has their own destination…just as every one of us has a goal, dream or hope.  Where are they going?  What are they thinking?  Finding myself in the crowd and then wondering… “Where do I belong?”  Am I a part of this large mass?  Where did my identity go?  Where did my dream go?  Struggling to move, struggling to fit in, struggling to follow the rules, struggling to find a way, struggling to find myself.  It is not easy, yet Tokyo is exciting, inspiring and energizing.
