Remapping the City for Students of Architecture

Remapping the City for Students of Architecture

ARCH3250
Fall Semester 2011

Dzenita Hadziomerovic

This BDA workshop will use the Twin Cities as a laboratory and mapmaking as a method to explore and present new and unexpected conditions in our city. Weekly design assignments will focus on observing, recording and uncovering layers of information. We will develop skills for making two dimensional and three dimensional diagrams of our neighborhoods.

This workshop will observe such experiences as: sound in the city, urban landscape, human interactions, street art and landmarks. Students will be asked to discover something new about a place. Through observation and analysis each participant will learn to see layers of information and develop stories to describe their individual mapping experience. In the end students should be able to present new City Guide for Prospective Student of Architecture.
