Future Lost Architectures

ARCH3250
Fall Semester 2010

Instructor
Aaron Westre

Course Description:
Future Lost Architectures is an expedition into the unmapped territory of future built environments, using software to find artifacts that have yet to be lost. The project is organized according to a (truthful) fiction: that it is possible to discover the architectures of unrealized futures. By careful and insightful use of software tools, architectures with high potential to destabilize or accelerate current practices can be located within infinitely branching futures. The students will form an expedition team that will perform a sort of archaeology in this territory, dragging future artifacts into the present for interpretation. The results of the expedition will form a partial map of alternate worlds and suggest ways of making them today.
