Course Description:
This BDA workshop will engage in a critical and rigorous process of design through the proposition of a small-scale inhabitable 'container' for the site surrounding the Walker Art Center.

The work of artists such as Donald Judd, Rachael Whiteread, Dan Graham and others will form the basis for an architectural proposition through an in-depth understanding of the artist’s viewpoint and specific mode of making.

Other modes of inquiry will include site examination (photography and drawing), program speculation, iterative making and small group critique/discussion. Students in this workshop will gain a deeper understanding of the role of precedent, program and site in architectural design while exploring the specifics of material assembly. In addition to ongoing process work, final deliverables will include carefully-crafted drawings and detailed physical models. Engagement in the process of making and critical questioning will be expected.
