Catalysts
2003 to present
The primary goal of the Catalysts was to raise the level of discourse regarding design in the school and to provoke leaps in perception of what design could be. Care was taken to guide the Catalyst teachers to exercises that would provide experiences outside the normative courses found in our curriculum. Most catalysts were 3-4 days and met intensively. We adapted the format for summer opportunities to capture visitors in the school for an afternoon. In these cases, students were asked to produce a graphic or model analysis on a given topic, visitors were asked to sketch through the evolution of the design idea behind the chosen detail or project.
