"The Multilevel Metropolis"


In this article, Jennifer Yoos and Vincent James, both previous instructors at the University of Minnesota, discuss the history and impact of the urban skyway system across the world. The article, featured in Places Journal, is an edited exceprt from Yoos' and James' new book Parallel Cities: The Multilevel Metropolis.

The artcile opens with a discussion on the historical context of the urban skyway system beginning in the mid-20th century. The authors then dealve into a conversation centering around urban skyways in the 21st century specifically in the Twin Cities. "The Multilevel Metropolis" is an in depth review of the urban skyway system which argues that these pedestrian walkways have "radically altered the form and spatial logic of cities around the world".
