William Weber

William Weber is a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Sustainable Building Research (CSBR), and Director of the Master of Science in Architecture Sustainable Design track and Lecturer at the School of Architecture at the University of Minnesota. Weber holds a Bachelors of Arts in Architecture, and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Minnesota. Weber's research focuses on the integration of sustainability and architecture through applied research, exploring and developing tools to evaluate and compare the often disparate aesthetic, economic, and environmental goals. He is a primary investigator and project manager of the Minnesota Sustainable Housing Initiative; a McKnight Foundation funded knowledge base of tools and case studies to advance sustainability in affordable housing. Recent projects include technical assistance for The Rose a Living Building Challenge inspired multifamily affordable housing development; facilitation and tool development for Aeon’s Learning Laboratory; the EnergyScoreCards Minnesota Pilot Project; the Green Rehabilitation of Elder Apartment Treatments: The GREAT Study with the National Center for Healthy Housing; and the HUD Community Partnership Outreach Center’s Affordable Housing Initiatives Case Study Prototypes.

At the School of Architecture Weber bridges teaching and research embedding the issue of sustainable performance-based design in both studio and technical courses. Past courses have connected students with local non-profits working on affordable housing and foreclosure impacted neighborhoods in Minneapolis. Student projects have explored a diversity of topics including 21st century infrastructure, access to food, air quality, affordable housing and neighborhood scale renewable energy.

Weber is the co-chair of the Energy Vision Advisory Committee for the City of Minneapolis, Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy Clean Energy Partnership; and a member of the metro region’s Clean Energy Resource Team (MetroCERTS) advisory board.
