Program Description
Integrated Sustainable Design Curriculum
 In addition to the course work, the program includes an integrated curriculum, which includes a variety of sustainable design educational opportunities and initiatives. The program encourages students to expand their education by participating in special lectures and events, professional practice, and research. The integrated curriculum includes:
- The M.S.-S. D. curriculum
- Bi-semester forum for M.S. students
- Related lectures and events
- GreenLight discussion series
- Research opportunities at CDes
Practicum
M.S.-S.D. candidates are eligible for a funded one- or two-semester practicum with local sustainable design firms, government agencies, or the Center for Sustainable Building Research. Practicum candidates work with faculty, researchers, industry representatives, and practitioners. Typical projects investigate sustainable design theories, alternative energies, green materials, water consumption, landscape and community development issues, or design-build environments related to zero emissions, energy, and ecological impacts.
Intern Development Program (IDP) and Licensing
M.S.-S.D. as a post-professional degree earns 235 Intern Development Program (IDP) training units in Category D, Related Activities, Professional and Community Service, #16. IDP and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) recognize the M.S.-S.D. as a supplementary education condition.
